Wool has seen humans through worse weather than a European autumn for a very long time indeed, and the raw, lightly textured handle of a piece like this is part of why the fibre is still around centuries later. The natural crimp of each strand traps air and holds warmth, even when the fabric is damp, something no smooth synthetic has ever quite replicated.
The relaxed cut is deliberate: enough room to layer over a shirt, enough structure to stand alone, and it holds its shape in both rather than favouring one.
Linen trousers and loafers for one version of the day. Denim and a plain shirt underneath for the other. Over a shirt when the morning is cold, alone once the afternoon warms.
